An acquisition to Ozinga is more than just handling standard paperwork. We take the time to create a transition process that allows our management team to get to know the acquired company’s coworkers, find out what makes them tick, and deliver opportunities that generate growth. Steve shares his story on how his acquisition experience gave him the opportunity to try something new.
Steve Fritts, Sales Representative
Steve joined the company in 1998 after Ozinga acquired his previous employer, Kouts Ready Mix. At Kouts, Fritts was a driver for 22 years, delivering ready mix concrete to customers.
Transitioning to Ozinga
After Fritts got wind of the acquisition, he was approached by another company asking him to join their ranks as a driver, but he decided to accept a position at Ozinga with the sales team instead, as it seemed like a better opportunity and fit.
“Ozinga is a big outfit, a family-run outfit, and they really care about their people,” Fritts explained.
A week before the acquisition was finalized, Ozinga’s Don Rapley, who was then head of the Indiana region, met with the Kouts Ready Mix drivers one-on-one to discuss their options post-acquisition. After chatting with Fritts, Rapley offered him the sales representative position.
At Ozinga, Fritts not only handles sales, he’s also responsible for bidding on projects, customer relations, and assisting with plant operation in our Wheatfield, Indiana office. He’s built some great relationships with customers and thinks the sales position has worked out great for both him and the company.
“My life since I came to Ozinga has been pretty good, I’ve been a lucky fella,” Fritts said.
