Antiquing Concrete Release

Antiquing Concrete Release Overview

The distinctive antiquing concrete release (antiquing concrete stain) colors serve as captivating accents to the attractive integral color foundation. Imagine how the complementary blend of an integral color, antiquing release color and stamped surface can add dimension and charm to your home.

Antiquing release colors are added to colored or stamped concrete surfaces via a powdered or liquid release agent. These color enhancers improve the beauty of other types of decorative concrete and the liquid or powder release agents act as a bond breaker to prevent stampers from sticking to the concrete.

A concrete antiquing agent adds a highlight or additional accent color to already colored concrete, making the surface more vibrant and enhancing the texture. Once the surface of the concrete has been sealed after antiquing, the color really pops.

Antiquing concrete stain colors are only suitable for concrete that is already stamped or colored. Antiquing concrete stains cannot be applied to any other type of concrete.

Liquid or Powder?

Concrete antiquing can be completed using pigmented liquid or powder release agents.

Due to the greater variety of color options, powder release agents are more popular with contractors—but they can also be messy. Be sure to cover nearby landscaping or other concrete flatwork to keep the particles from imparting color where it’s not wanted.

Masks are necessary during the application process to avoid inhalation of fine particles.

Powder release agents are typically applied using a brush, while liquid can be sprayed directly on the surface.

Whether you’re using powder or liquid release agents, be careful not to apply too much product. Concrete antiquing is intended to provide a subtle color highlight—too much release agent will result in a much darker surface.

If you’re not sure which release agent to go with, you can create a beautiful finish with both. Start with a minimal sprinkle of powder release, topped with a liquid one.

*The antiquing colors are an approximation of the final concrete color. Much like marble, granite or wood, concrete has natural variation in appearance. The color of concrete can be impacted by many factors such as natural shade, the color of local concrete material and the style of concrete finish selected. Concrete that is not cured and sealed will have less brilliance and color uniformity.
